Like many, MANY high school-ers, I'm fretting about college. I have a few in mind, including UC Santa Barbara, UC San Diego, UC Irvine, UC anything (except Riverside and Merced.) My number one school, however, is USC, and I just want a little insight about whether I have a shot or not. Here are my stats:
GPA: (unweighted): 3.625 (weighted):
Honors/AP's?: Yup, all four years of high school. Here's the rather extensive list:
-Honors Biology, Honors English (Freshman year)
-Honors World History, Honors Chemistry, Honors English (Sophomore year)
-AP Biology, AP US History, AP English, Spanish 4 at the local CC, Trig at the local CC (Junior year)
-AP Environmental Science, AP Government, AP Economics, AP English (Senior year)
Other electives include: five years of Spanish, four years of Drama (I %26amp; II), American Sign Language, Drivers Ed,
SAT: results haven't come in yet, but my PSAT was in the 195+ range, so I'm assuming (hoping) the score will be 2,000+.
ACT: Likewise. ^^^
Extracurriculars:
-3 years of Knowledge Bowl
-2 years of Academic Decathlon (medaled four times thus far, 1st in speech, 2nd in lit, 2nd in interview, and 3rd in music)
-2 years of Geo Bowl
-3 years of varsity Track %26amp; Field (captain Junior year)
-Lead role in fall play Barefoot in the Park (Junior year)
-Roles in two other plays (A Christmas Carol, Cinderella)
-I've been doing Tae Kwon Do for 10+ years
-A plethora of clubs: Interact, Students for the American Way (of which I am President), Key Club, -A-Team (tutoring club), Academic Decathlon (aforementioned, but I am also the President of it.), Spirit Club, Science League, Junior Class, Environmental Club, etc
-House Manager for 3 theater productions
-Founded a Community Service Club that focuses on helping homeless families/people around our area
-200+ hours of Community Service
-Nominated/accepted into the Youth Citizenship Seminar at Pepperdine University (Junior year)
-In the midst of founding two more clubs:a book club, and a speech/debate club
There are more, I just can't remember all of them at the moment. Hopefully, they'll come to me when application time rolls around. ;-)
Thank you for helping! :)USC bound? Question from an anxious student :)?

What are my chances of being accepted at Brown University?
I am a senior right now and soon to be applying. It has been my dream for some time to get go to Brown University. Here is the foundation of my credentials:
I have taken or currently am taking the hardest curriculum offered. This includes:
Every honors class available, four years of advanced Spanish, AP European History, AP United States History, AP Calculus, AP English, and AP Government.
My GPA is currently a 98.7 out of 100. I am ranked 5th in my class.
As for after school activities and awards:
I am a member of the Debate Team, Math Team, Future Business Leaders of America, Jazz Band, Chorus, Select Men's Choir, Theater Arts Program, National Honors Society.
I am the highest rank of Altar Server at my Catholic Parish. I have been for roughly 10 years now. I have been taking private Piano lessons for roughly 9 years now. I also take vocal lessons and I am the coordinator and conductor of a Bell Choir for Elderly Women at the local Assisted Living Home.
I have also managed holding a part time job for over two years now as a dietary aid at the same Assisted Living Home.
Awards and Honors:
First Place Novice Team, as well as many speaker awards in Debate Team.
First Place in a State-wide Website Development competition in Future Business Leaders of America.
First place Business Plan in a State-wide competition in Future Business Leaders of America
Valedictorian of my Catholic and Private Middle School.
Third place in a Computer Problem Solving competition in Future Business Leaders of America.
Music student of the year.
I have obtained many medals at Solo and Ensemble competitions at Rhode Island College for piano playing.
I will be participating in a Mathematics Competition at WPI this November.
I played the second leading male in last year's Theater Arts production of "Chicago."
My SAT Scores:
Mathematics: 560
Reading: 610
Writing: 620
*** I am currently getting tutored in SAT Mathematics privately. My score is expected to break 700 this time around, as I was having an off-day last time. I am also taking a private SAT course for writing and reading.
I plan on taking the US History, Math Level 1, and Literature subject tests in October.
Alright, well I think that covers everything. I may have forgotten some things. Anyway, if anyone here has any knowledge of the school, let me know what kind of shot you think I have of getting accepted! What are my chances of being accepted at Brown University?
Your activities seem great. You aren't like the other applicants who have somewhat random activities. You seem to be really strong in music, especially singing, and you are also very accomplished. That's good. The bad part is, you only have a few more opportunities to take both the SAT I and your SAT Subject Tests. With you current SAT I scores, you will not get in, just because it appears that you really are not strong at math or english, two essential parts of education. A 700 in each section may not cut it either. The median for a school like Brown is probably around 2160-2190 (average of 720 to 730 per section). Bear in mind that the people below this median can be legacies, athletes or minorities. That means that if you are lacking those things, you really need a 2220-2250 to be in the ball park. THat means you need to average 740 to 750 in each section. THat is a bit drastic of a change from your current scores, but if you can do it, you put yourself in range for the school. In addition, you have to make sure all of those SAT subject tests (maybe you can get away with just 2) are above 750. I think your activities and GPA are great, but your standardized test scores CAN keep you out of a school. What are my chances of being accepted at Brown University?
Overachiever huh? LOL. Okay. Well I say that your chances are excellent. You're very involved with everything. You seem to be a great student and are very well rounded. I'd say you're chances are very good. Good job. What are my chances of being accepted at Brown University?
everything looks good. those sat scores don't seem to reflect everything else. you make yourself sound smart. those scores don't.
your chances sound really good..i'd retake the SAT..other than that you're pretty much covered.

What Are My Chances of getting into UC Santa Cruz?
GPA (Weighted) - 3.31
SAT - 1870
ACT - 28
SAT US History - 670
SAT Literature - 590
5 AP Classes
3 Honors Classes
Silver and Bronze medals in Academic Decathlon (Freshman Year)
90 Service Hours
Minority - East Indian Heritage
Clean School Record - Not a single detention
I am not athletic but I did do a year of basket ball Freshman year. I spent two years in my school's music ministry. I spent a year in Band. I couldn't do 4 years in anything because I switched school during the summer after my Sophomore school. The transition between schools is the reason my GPA isn't too high. I'm going to write about it in my essay. I also have worked at my family's business for the last 6 years. What would you say my chances are? And do you guys think that I can get into any better UC schools? What Are My Chances of getting into UC Santa Cruz?
Not good - maybe 50-50 at the best. You will however get into a UC FOR SURE. Just maybe not the one of your choice. Last year all qualified applicants got into one. You are qualified if you got a 3.0 GPA and have reasonable SAT's - which you have.
However, although all the UC's are good, make no mistake about that, it is still quite possible to get stuck in huge freshman classes taught by graduate students. Not my ideal of a great college experience. You may like to consider some other schools such as the colleges that change lives:

UC Santa Cruz isn't really one of the most competitive UCs and so I think you'll get in, with no problems at all.

The school probably has it's average test scores and GPA somewhere on it's website. UCSC isn't particularly selective so you probably have a solid shot of getting in.

My sister, when she applied, got in with a 1020 SAT (on the old one, out of 1600). She didn't do any sports, but was in a couple clubs and took a couple AP classes.
So I would say your chances are very good. Are you considering applying to other UC's like Davis or Irvine also? What Are My Chances of getting into UC Santa Cruz?

What are my chances of getting into UC Santa Cruz, Santa Barbara, or Davis?
I'd say you've got a really good shot at Santa Cruz. You definitely have a chance at the others though. The only problem you have is that you did a lot of skipping around in your extracurriculars. Colleges like to see consistency. You will definitely want to include in your personal statement the fact that you had to switch around schools. Perhaps you could write about that in the second prompt, as an experience that you value. A good essay could make or break your entrance into Davis,.
I don't think you have a shot at Berkeley, LA, or San Diego...but you could also try Irvine, Riverside, and Merced. Merced would be a great alternative to Davis if you end up not getting in.
Good chances at all, although your GPA is very low.
To answer your question.. UCLA and UCB would be difficult for you to gain entry to, but it's CERTAINLY possible. What are my chances of getting into UC Santa Cruz, Santa Barbara, or Davis?
Good chance at UCSC. Iffy chance at UCSB and UCD.
With a 3.31 weighted GPA, I would have to say that your chances are very slight. The usual rule of thumb is that you need a minimum 3.5 unweighted GPA to get into a UC, with exceptions coming for those with really high SAT or ACT scores. What are my chances of getting into UC Santa Cruz, Santa Barbara, or Davis?
I would like to reply to the girl who posted above me. A unweighted 3.5 is not necessary at all. last year, every applicant who met the minimum requirements got into at least one of the UCs. So ignore her answer. A unweighted 3.5 would be needed for schools like UCLA, Berkley, and UCSD. I would say that you'll probably get into UCSC but I'm not too sure on SB and Davis. Though you still have a shot.
