What is a good laptop to buy for 2 boys, 11 & 13 year old.?

it will be their christmas box this year, they want it to play games - runescape, medal of honour, watch you tube and listen to music. i want it to help them with their schoolwork - access to wikipedia, typing up and saving school homework and generally learning educational stuff.



was thinking about the 拢400 mark 拢500 if it will be the only time i ever have to buy one. and do they come with anti-virus software, do you buy this or use avg for free?

I bought a laptop last week from pc world and they have got a sale on most of their laptops especially the HP Pavillion range. my sister works at the Beckton branch in east london and she says that theres going to be a further reduction on the sale items in the middle of november.



The HP Pavillion laptops they sell there all have excellent graphics cards for gaming and also are all WiFi ready for wireless internet and are available on many Operating systems. the cheapest on sale i saw at the moment is 拢249.99 and they most expensive is around 拢500.



Excellent Laptops and the prices at pc world are the cheapest. i visited currys and dixons and the are selling the same laptops but all seem to be priced 20 to 30 pounds more than pc world



Argos is too expensive.

unless you are loaded and money is absolutely no object I would recommend buying two used ones there are thousands of good used ones for sale because of the recession for one third to one half of a new one and losing it or breaking it will not matter so much

I'd go with something like a:



Toshiba Satellite Pro L300-299 / C2 T5870 2.0 / 3GB / 320GB / 15.4" W XGA CSV / GM45 / DVD-SM / 11b/g / Cam / Notebook PC



Toshiba are doing a 拢50 cash-back deal on them currently so they're working out very good value for money. Plus 3gb of ram and a pretty decent processor they'll be more than capable of handling a few games etc.



If they are students(at any age) there is an offer on software4students where you can get a full copy of MS Office i.e. word, excel, powerpoint etc for about 拢35.



Both of these offers are only running till end of month though so you'll need to get a hurry on shortly.

Edit: just saw you mention you're in Ireland, try an online etailer such as misco.co.uk or dabs.co.uk as you'll get far more for your money than you will at PC world
