XFX radeon HD4850 grey screen issue?

hi guys

i very rarely ask questions regarding hardware as i can normally sort them out myself however this one has stumped me... so im hoping theres some highly talented techie who can assist me with this problem

it started yesterday when i received a XFX HD4850(512mb) and upon fitting the card and installing the drivers everything seemed ok... infact i ran multiple 3dmark benchmarks with 3dmark03 notching up a record 41,000

however as soon as i ran the game "FEAR3" the game crashed to a grey screen with red/pink vertical lines .....image : http://www.overclock.net/gallery/data/50鈥?/a>

i was unable to ctrl-alt-delete so a manual reboot was required....... and windows loaded ok without any problems...infact surfing the web and general desktop/office apps run ok.....

other games that were affected are FEAR3 and medal of honor (2010) ... and when running "magix music maker 17" the graphical timeline were the music samples go was also affected( this is because this uses direct x )

my system specs are :

intel celeron E3300(2.5ghz) dual core

4gb corsair XMS ddr2(pc2-6400) ram

asrock g41m-gs motherboard

2 x 320gb sata II HDD

cool-it eco alc cpu water cooler

XFX radeon HD4850( however using HD5670 at the moment while i sort out the HD4850 issue )

500w OCZ stealthstream psu (2 x 18A rails )

creative soundblaster x-fi gamer soundcard

as you can see my specs are pretty well balanced and when using the radeon HD5670 the system runs great ...... so i cant for the life of me work out why the HD4850 is causing so many problems

from looking online ive discovered the grey screen problem is quite common with the HD4850 so wouldnt you think ati or amd would of released a fix ..... many guys have commented on such as fix but theres no actual download that i can find

ive also considered the soundblaster x-fi may be causing the problem.... what do you think ... however i shall leave this until last if all else fails

summary

1)psu is well within requirements

2)pci-express x16 slot is "v2.0" compliant ( could this be a problem ? )

3)using a dedicated 6pin power connector ( no adapter )

any ideas,,,, any help will be much appreciated

cheers guys !XFX radeon HD4850 grey screen issue?
ok, i presume you have download the latest catalist drivers from ATI???

That would be the 1st point of call when installing a new card as the drivers on the supplied disk could be outdated.
